A little bit about me...

My name is Chelsea and I’ve been working in leadership within the Education sector for over 15 years. I live a busy life with my husband and two teenage daughters, plus our two cats, in the beautiful city of Brisbane.
While my weekdays are filled with various commitments to my corporate role and small business, my weekends are always focused on filling my cup through time with friends and family, plus plenty of good food and exercise.
As I move into mid-life, I have realised the importance of ensuring that both our work life and our personal life, while not always balanced, equally contribute to life satisfaction.
The Story Behind HelloBoss
Boss is such a loaded word, isn't it?

It is a term that can conjure a myriad of images... From the imposing task-master to the jolly leader, we have all encountered bosses in their various forms.

I have always called my line manager 'Boss'. So for me, it has actually always been a term of endearment or respect. And for anyone with the guts to take on a leadership position, I think it is a term that has the ability to capture that, yes, they are the person in charge, but they are also the person that must inspire and lead, not least of which involves difficult discussions and hard calls.

But I think it is only when you become a Boss that you realise the weight of this title…
When I first took on a leadership position, it became quickly apparent that while I had been given a promotion, nobody really gave me any formal training in leading people. Leadership became a process of trial and error. I made sure that I always was the hardest working person in the room. Some days I would feel as though I had conquered the world, other days I was bitter and disappointed in human nature.
I became trapped in a cycle of stress and, ultimately, burn out without exactly burning out.
When I look back at my younger self now, I realised that I never really positioned myself as a leader; I had not yet shaped this aspect of my identity and at times became crippled by imposter syndrome. I tried to manage, but not really lead.
It wasn’t until I was promoted into a larger position at a different school that I took some time to really consider what type of Boss I wanted to be. I undertook training and engaged in a professional mentorship. I had a clear vision and used best-practice leadership strategies to create a high-performing team. It was one of the most rewarding times of my career.
I have most recently moved into a corporate position where I mentor other fledging leaders and this has opened my eyes to the fact that my experience as a new leader was not unique, it was actually the norm.
And this is when HelloBoss was born.
This is a platform for anyone with the title of ‘Boss’. It might be a new title, or well worn, but you want the skills to be the best possible Boss that you can be…
You have come to the right place!
